All in Good Fun, Children’s Songs for Beginning Ukulele is a collection of tried-and-true folk songs parents and caregivers have been singing to their children for generations. All in Good Fun will include:

• Chord charts for ukuleles in standard and baritone tuning

• Guide to using the Nashville Number System

• Strum patterns chart

• Tips for making music a family affair

• Play-along videos for every song in the book

While this songbook was created with parents and caregivers of young children in mind, this collection will be useful to any ukulele player looking to have some “good fun” with a curated list of beginner-friendly classics.

The Backstory

When I was first learning to play the ukulele, I was an at-home mom to two young kids and desperate for a creative outlet. For me, the ukulele was more than a musical instrument, it was a reminder that I had an identity beyond diaper-changer and snack-provider. My enthusiasm for the instrument led me to create Musical Mama, and in fact, the name Musical Mama wasn’t supposed to refer to me, it was my goal for my first students—to help other mamas (and daddies and caregivers) discover that they could make music, too. Making music is so good for us—it can boost our mood almost instantly; it engages us in an activity that feels rewarding, exciting, and fun; and it helps us be more playful as we endure the “longest shortest time” of life with young kids. My hope is that All in Good Fun will help anyone who’s excited to learn to play ukulele, so they can then share the joy of making music with their loved ones.
