Am I the Only One Not Feeling the New Year Vibes?

I remember January 2019 feeling spacious and chill, a calm after the Christmas storm. And I expected January 2020 to feel the same. This year felt promising— I was looking forward to turning 40 on January 6th and celebrating the start of a new decade. But then, in early December, my mom passed away. The past month has been full of grief and, when coupled with the chaos of the holidays, my focus has been elsewhere.*

My inclination was to not mention anything about my mom on the blog because I don’t tend to delve into my personal life much here, but it’s been hard for me to think about much else. My hope is that now that I’ve shared this information with you, it will be easier for me to make room to work on the blog posts and projects I am excited to share with you this year. I expect I’ll even post a more typical resolutions-y post soon. But for now, I’ll probably just be winging it like Calvin.

Here’s hoping your 2020 is full of love, light, and the things that matter to you.

Big hugs,

Melissa.
